Most Extraordinary Fellow
One of the three long Popeye cartoons - all great. Much like the Betty Boop cave scenes in various cartoons, watch for the background tableaux here. The story is simple, the color is great, Wimpy is cute chasing a duck burger dinner, Olive is shrill and pliable, the two-headed man stands out as original amidst all the formidable foes that inhabit Sinbad's island. And, the Fleischers have substituted crazy violence for the sex of the Betty Boop cartoons - well, Olive is no Betty - and the Hayes Commission seemed to like violence of the eye for an eye sort - beat up on the hero and get beaten up - is just fine.

The Best Popeye
I remember the very first time I saw this mini-movie of a cartoon when a child in the 50's. My older brother and I routinely went to Saturday matinee movies. This cartoon played only once but it is wonderfully done in all aspects that it defined Popeye and the others from the moment on. A big thank you!! to the Archive and the up-loader for this small piece of my childhood.

I am so gratified to see Popeye the Sailor meets Sinbad the Sailor!
Especially without the extraneous 1950's Popeye stuff pasted onto each end of it. This is one of the three longer, color Popeye cartoons done with the early set of characters. All the good stuff is there; the funny, under-the-breath comments, the rich animation style, and the crazy storyline. Have you noticed that this 16 minute cartoon had 2 animators (at 30 frames a second), as opposed to current cartoons which appear to run at 2 frames a second (especially the anime cartoons which probably induce epileptic seizures in anyone who watches them) and require a couple of hundred animators? Very strange!
This cartoon has Popeye and Sinbad (Bluto) competing for the title of Extra Special Kind Of Fellow i.e. World's Greatest Sailor. Olive does a great job of acting goofy while they fight it out with each other and various animals. My favorite character is the two-headed giant. Half of the time, his comments were so bizarre I couldn't understand what he was trying to say, but he's so ridiculous, who cares. Keep an eye out for Wimpy. He's trying to make hamburgers out of strange things.
Anyway, this is a terrific cartoon that was rated #17 on the list of all-time greatest cartoons. You've got to see it. It's bodacious!
